Deze week vond in Stockholm, Zweden de wat mysterieuze Bilderberg-conferentie plaats, de 71ste al. Het is een elite-feestje waar de macht uit de hemdsmouwen en neusgaten druipt. De conferentie werd in 1954 opgericht door Prins Bernhard van Nederland.

Wat is het verschil met dat andere feestje, het World Economic Forum (WEF) of DAVOS in de volksmond?

Wel ten eerste, op het WEF is de pers welkom. Op de Bilderberg-conferentie niet. De Bilderbergers hebben een godsgruwelijke hekel aan journalisten. Dat wil zeggen, ze nodigen wel geselecteerde uitgevers en journalisten uit als evenwaardige gasten zoals politici en ondernemers, om hun mening te horen, niet om het event te verslaan in hun respectieve media.

Opmerkelijk, dit jaar werd Karel Verhoeven, de hoofdredacteur van De Standaard uitgenodigd. Dat is natuurlijk een aberratie want Verhoeven komt intellectueel nog niet tot aan de enkels van de gemiddelde ingehuurde topcourtisane ter vermaak van de hoge heren tussen de sessies door. De uitleg waarom Verhoeven toch mag aanwezig zijn, is omdat zijn baas Thomas Leysen de enige andere Belg is op het feestje, en dat is de voorzitter van Mediahuis, de uitgever van De Standaard. Het is alsof Leysen aan de organisatie gezegd heeft dat hij zijn topkabouter wilde meebrengen om zijn koffers te dragen.

Ten tweede is Bilderberg georganiseerd volgens het principe van Chatham House. De Chatham House Rule zegt dat je de info op de conferentie mag gebruiken voor persoonlijke groei, maar je mag niet onthullen van wie je de info hebt, of wie er nog aanwezig was om de info te ontvangen.

Dat brengt ons bij het derde verschil. Op het WEF is iedereen in functie. Bij Bilderberg is iedereen er persoonlijk. De president van een politieke partij zal op het WEF zijn partijstandpunt naar voor brengen. Bij Bilderberg zal hij zijn persoonlijke mening verkondigen.

Wat ook vaak gebeurt bij Bilderberg is dat er mensen off-list opduiken. Zo is er het gerucht dat Tinne Van der Straeten er al gesignaleerd is. Als zij het was die onze Bilderberg-watcher zag dan kan het niet anders of ze is ingehuurd als Belgische courtisane om lieden als Koning Willem-Alexander te plezieren. Kwestie van wat kernenergetische momenten tussen de laken te organiseren.
